Analytical blank types and their purpose

Understanding the question
Different blank preparations can investigate different sources of signal. The label alone does not show which materials and steps were included. A reviewer needs the blank definition to understand what was controlled.
A worked example
Consider a teaching run with one container containing only solvent and another processed through the full preparation. A signal in one but not the other raises a more specific question than the statement “the blank failed.” The reviewer preserves the preparation details before investigating the cause.

Check which steps each blank represents. Do not assume a clean solvent trace excludes contamination from every other stage, and do not attribute a signal to the product without appropriate evidence.
