NOVEX NOTES 182 / English

System suitability and sample testing

Editorial educational material · 16 October 2026

Understanding the question

System suitability checks address whether the analytical system meets defined conditions for a procedure. Their scope differs from the conclusions about an unknown sample. A passed check is not a certificate for every property of that sample.

A worked example

In a teaching sequence, a reference run satisfies the laboratory’s predefined criteria. The reviewer records that finding, then evaluates the sample results separately. Copying “system passed” into a catalogue as “product fully certified” would extend the statement beyond its meaning.

Original editorial teaching example, not clinical trial findings.

What to check

Read the criteria, timing and method scope. Do not replace product-specific tests with a system check, and do not reuse criteria from an unrelated procedure because their wording looks familiar.
