NOVEX NOTES 188 / English
Reference bracketing in sample sequences
Editorial educational material · 16 October 2026
Understanding the question
References placed at defined points in a run provide information about those observations and the chosen monitoring strategy. Their meaning depends on spacing, conditions and criteria. Two checks cannot automatically document every unobserved moment.
A worked example
In a teaching sequence, the beginning and end references agree while an intermediate event is recorded. The reviewer should not dismiss the event solely because the endpoints match. The useful question is whether the documented procedure addresses the interruption and its possible consequences.
Original editorial teaching example, not clinical trial findings. What to check
Read the monitoring plan and full run history. Do not turn matching endpoints into a universal statement that every sample between them was unaffected.
