NOVEX NOTES 192 / English

Detector saturation and quantitative range

Editorial educational material · 16 October 2026

Understanding the question

A measurement system has an operating range. Outside suitable conditions, an increase in material need not produce a proportional increase in recorded response. The method should establish where quantitative interpretation is supported.

A worked example

In a teaching graph, the response rises with the input and then flattens. The reviewer does not continue the first straight section indefinitely or infer amounts from the flattened section using the same relationship. A software-generated number still needs a valid measurement basis.

Original editorial teaching example, not clinical trial findings.

What to check

Check the validated range and any recorded limitations. Do not use an off-range response as a precise content result or invent an adjustment factor to match the expected label.
