NOVEX NOTES 178 / English
Detector response factors and analyte amount
Editorial educational material · 16 October 2026
Understanding the question
Different components can produce different responses in a measurement system. A signal comparison therefore needs an appropriate response relationship. Equal peak areas should not automatically be interpreted as equal masses of unrelated components.
A worked example
In a fictional instrument example, material A produces twice the response of B for the same defined amount. Equal areas would then correspond to different amounts under that model. A reviewer records the assumption instead of presenting area percentages as a universal ingredient recipe.

Read the calibration and response basis. Do not invent correction factors from the appearance of a chromatogram. This distinction explains a measurement limitation and does not provide an assay specification for any product.
