NOVEX NOTES 191 / English
UV detection wavelength and chromatographic response
Editorial educational material · 16 October 2026
Understanding the question
A UV response depends on measurement conditions and the absorbing material. The detection wavelength is part of the analytical description. Traces obtained under different conditions cannot always be compared by eye as a universal quantity scale.
A worked example
In a fictional illustration, a component gives a stronger response under one detection setting than another. The editor must not interpret the taller trace as more material without the appropriate calibration and method context. The difference could reflect how the signal was collected.
Original editorial teaching example, not clinical trial findings. What to check
Read the wavelength, calibration and response definition. Do not transfer peak percentages between methods as though detection settings had no effect on what is visible.
