NOVEX NOTES 190 / English

Sample preparation versus injection replicates

Editorial educational material · 16 October 2026

Understanding the question

An analytical result depends on the complete procedure, not only the detector. Preparation and measurement stages need to be distinguished. A precise instrument reading does not automatically establish that every earlier step represented the original sample correctly.

A worked example

In a fictional review, repeat injections of one prepared vial agree closely, but the reviewer still asks how the vial was prepared from the original material. Repeated agreement at the detector answers a narrower question than independent preparation of new samples.

Original editorial teaching example, not clinical trial findings.

What to check

Keep preparation replicates separate from injection replicates. Do not call repeated readings complete process validation or attribute every discrepancy to the original product without investigating the procedure.
